How to schedule Instagram posts: every way, honestly compared

On this pageCan you schedule Instagram posts?

Yes, you can schedule Instagram posts, three ways: in the Instagram app itself, in Meta Business Suite on your phone or computer, or with a scheduler that posts for you through Meta's API. Each one handles a different mix of photos, carousels, Reels and Stories, and only some of them work from a computer.

Below: how to schedule Instagram posts each way, what each one can't do, and which suits a photographer with a whole wedding to get posted. Every Instagram fact links to Meta's own help pages, all read on 25 October 2026.

Or schedule straight from Lightroom. With WedSchedulePro, one click in Lightroom sends your photos to your queue, and the queue posts on the days you choose. See how it works →

Can you schedule Instagram posts?

Yes. Any public Instagram account can schedule posts in the app, a business account can also use Meta Business Suite, and a business or creator account can use a scheduler that posts through Meta's API. The table shows what each way covers.

How do you schedule a post in the Instagram app?

Make the post as normal, tap More options, turn on Schedule this post (or Schedule this reel), pick a date and time, then tap Schedule. It's built into the app, so there's nothing to install or connect.

The full steps, from Instagram's help page:

  1. Tap Create (or swipe right in your feed), then Post or Reel.
  2. Choose your photo or video and tap Next.
  3. Add your caption.
  4. Tap More options and turn on Schedule this post.
  5. Choose the date and time, tap Done, then Back, then Schedule.

This is the quickest way to schedule one post from your phone. It gets slower when you have thirty photos from a wedding on your computer, because every one of them has to reach your phone first.

What are the limits of scheduling in the Instagram app?

You can schedule up to 25 posts a day, up to 30 days ahead, and only from a public account. Posts with product tags, a collaborator, a sponsored-post label or a fundraiser can't be scheduled.

Those limits are on Instagram's own help page. The one that catches wedding suppliers out is collaborative posts. If you'd normally invite the venue or planner as a collaborator, the app won't let you do that on a scheduled post, so you either post it live or leave the collaborator off.

How do you schedule Instagram posts from a computer?

Use Meta Business Suite: click Create post, choose your Instagram profile, add up to 10 photos and your caption, then pick a date and time under Scheduling options. It is free to use, and works on a computer as well as in its own phone app.

Meta's desktop steps also let you post the same thing to your Facebook Page at once, and edit, reschedule or delete a scheduled post later from the Content tab. Meta says Business Suite is free to use on desktop and in the app, and that your business needs a business portfolio holding your Page and Instagram account to use it.

Before you start, Meta says you need access to the Facebook Page and an Instagram profile for your business. If your Instagram is a personal account, that means switching it to a professional one first (below).

Can you schedule Instagram Stories?

Yes, in Meta Business Suite, but not in the Instagram app. Business Suite lets you schedule up to 10 photos or videos as a Story, with text, stickers and a link, from your computer or its phone app.

Meta's Stories steps are: click Create story, choose your Instagram profile, add your photos or videos, then choose Schedule and a date and time. Instagram's scheduling page lists Reels, photos and carousel posts as the things you can schedule in the app, and Stories aren't on that list.

Do you need a business account to schedule Instagram posts?

Not for the Instagram app: a public personal account can schedule there. For Meta Business Suite, or for any scheduler that posts for you, you need a professional account, which is either a business or a creator account.

The app's only rule is that your account is public. Meta's publishing guide is written for "Instagram professional accounts", so a personal account can't be posted to by a scheduler at all. To switch, in the app, go to Settings, then Account type and tools, then Switch to professional account. Instagram's help page on switching notes that a private account becomes public when you do.

How does a scheduler post to Instagram for you?

It holds your post until the time you chose, then sends it to Instagram through Meta's publishing API, the same way for photos, carousels and Reels. You don't need your phone, and you don't get a notification to finish the post yourself.

Meta's publishing guide covers single photos, videos, Reels, carousels and Stories. When you compare schedulers, ask one question first: does it post for you, or does it send your phone a reminder and leave the last tap to you? Both get called "scheduling".

The API also changes the photo sizes Instagram accepts, which our Instagram post size guide covers in full.

Where do you find your scheduled posts on Instagram?

On your profile, tap the menu at the top right, then Scheduled content under Your insights and tools. You can also tap Create, then Post or Reel, then Scheduled.

From either place you can edit a post, reschedule it, delete it or share it straight away, according to Instagram's help page. Posts scheduled in Meta Business Suite live in Business Suite's own Content tab, under Scheduled, so look there if one you made on your computer isn't in the app's list.

Why can't you schedule a post on Instagram?

Usually because the account is private, or because the post has a product tag, a collaborator, a sponsored-post label or a fundraiser, which the app can't schedule. Make the account public, or remove that feature, and the Schedule this post option works.

Both rules come from Instagram's scheduling page. If you've hit the limit of 25 scheduled posts in a day, move some to the next day.

Which way suits a wedding photographer?

Use the Instagram app for one post from your phone, and Meta Business Suite for Stories or for posting from your computer. For a steady flow of a wedding's best photos without touching your phone, use a scheduler that starts where your photos already are.

The app and Business Suite both have you choose, upload and caption one post at a time. That's fine for a single post, and slow for the thirty you want out of one wedding. For a photographer, the question to ask any scheduler is how the photos get into it: if the answer is "export, then upload", you've only moved the job. More guides like this are on our Learn page.
