Connecting your Instagram account

Instagram’s publishing rules mean a few things have to be set up on Meta’s side before we can post for you. It takes about ten minutes, and you only do it once.

This is Meta’s setup, not ours — we can’t skip any of it. Below is each step, and what to do when one of them fails.

What you need before you start

Three things have to be true. Most people already have the first two.

  1. Your Instagram is a Business or Creator account. Personal accounts can’t publish through any scheduling tool — this is Instagram’s rule, not a limit we’ve set.
  2. Your Instagram is linked to a Facebook Page. Instagram publishes through a Page, even though your posts appear on Instagram.
  3. You manage that Page — you’re an admin on it, not just a follower or an editor.

Step 1 — Switch Instagram to a Professional account

In the Instagram app: Settings → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account. Choose Business or Creator — either works for posting.

It’s free, it doesn’t change your handle, and you can switch back whenever you like.

Step 2 — Link your Instagram to a Facebook Page

In the Instagram app: Settings → Account type and tools → Sharing to other apps → Facebook. Pick the Page you want to publish through.

No Page yet? Create one at facebook.com/pages/create — it can be your business name. A Page is separate from your personal Facebook profile.

Step 3 — Connect it here

In WedSchedulePro: Settings → Connections → Connect Instagram. Sign in with the Facebook account that manages your Page, and approve the permissions.

When Meta asks which Pages to give access to, choose the Page your Instagram is linked to. If you skip it here, the connection completes but we won’t find your account.

When it doesn’t work

“We couldn’t find a Business or Creator account”

Your Instagram is still a personal account, or your browser is signed in to a different Instagram than the one you switched. Sign in to instagram.com as the professional account, then try again.

“We couldn’t find a Facebook Page you manage”

Either no Page exists yet, or you’re not an admin on it. Create a Page, or ask its current admin to make you one — being an editor isn’t enough.

“Sorry, something went wrong” — from Meta, during the Instagram step

This is Meta’s error, not ours, and it’s the most confusing one. It usually means the Page isn’t in the same Meta business portfolio as the app you’re connecting to.

Things worth trying, in order:

  1. Sign in to instagram.com in the same browser first, then start the connection again.
  2. Turn third-party cookies on for the sign-in — Meta’s flow needs them.
  3. Confirm you’re an admin of the Page, not an editor.
  4. In business.facebook.com, check the Page sits in the same business portfolio you’re connecting from. Moving a Page between portfolios is done in Meta’s Business Settings.

If it still fails, send us the email address on your Facebook account and roughly when you tried, and we’ll look at what Meta returned.
